The 300D and D50 would be too limited in my humble opinion, such that if you plan to buy a body and keep it for a while, you'll run into their "issues" after a little while. Definitely consider 350D or D70(s), along with as good of a lens as you can afford. The 18-70 DX kit lens for Nikon cameras is good from what I've seen from it, but the Canon 18-55 kit lens is sometimes said not to be quite so good. I don't know what to recommend on the Canon side, but there are plenty of folks here who can help you out on that. :)

Then, a few years ago for a very short time, I used a Kodak P&S digital, before getting disgusted with it and going back to film. Finally, this spring my wallet suffered major damage with a used D1 and a couple of lenses (24-85 zoom and 90mm macro). College (this fall) will probably put an end to my photographic acquisitions for a while, but now that the Luminous Landscape did an article on video cameras, I have even more stuff to dream / drool about. Must... hide... credit card... now..! :D

I sent my EAD extension documents on 7/9 via FedEx to Nebraska. They recvd it on 7/11 morning and got signature proof. Can you please let me know how many days it take for the check to be encashed? This will be helpful. Thanks!!

Good news concerning AOS denials based on I-140 revocations

We received some very good news over the weekend. In October and November, our office was contacted by a number of adjustment of status applicants who had received denials based on "revocations" of their approved I-140 petitions by former employers. All of these applicants had AOS applications that had been pending for more than 180 days before they left their sponsoring employers. They also had approved I-140 petitions. Nonetheless, vindictive employers in each case attempted to revoke the approved I-140 petitions. The CIS accepted these "revocations" and promptly denied the AOS applications. We were contacted by six different individuals with these types of cases and we filed motions to reconsider in their cases.
Earlier, in September, we handled this type of case and the MTR was granted and the denial successfully reversed. This happened before any of these October/November cases came in or were filed.
I was disappointed to see that the CIS was still attempting to deny cases on this basis. There is absolutely no law to support this type of denial and, in fact, such denials are directly contrary to both statutory law and explicit CIS policy.
I was gratified to see that all six of the MTRs we field in October/November were granted and the denials reversed. I am also encouraged that the CIS accepted our request to reopen the denials of the dependents as well, on their own motion, and spare the pricipal applicants the cost of paying filing fees for MTRs for the denials of dependents' AOS applications.
I hope this means that the supervisors at the service centers involved are now aware of the blatant illegality of these types of denials and will put and end to them in the future. We can only hope that we have seen an end to this nonsense.

why do you say that the audit is for pending applications only?
the news article says that they are auditing all PERM applications filed by Fragomen, which means that pending and approved applications will be audited. The article doesn't mention the timeframe either.
audit is only on pending applications..i dont think it is on certified..
also they may process fugmon cases fase..hope they dont denied any..

It is more than likely a computer glitch but it's always worth it to check with the USCIS. A few years ago the status on one my approved old H-1B cases changed from Approved to Initial Review. It shows the same (Initial Review) status till date. It did not affect my current and/or future H-1B approvals.

HOW: Some attorneys have what they call "consular representation" (ie a good working relationship with the Consulates in Canada). I do NOT know how this is feasible, but several applicants who are unable to travel to their home countries due to long consular wait times, fear of retribution, etc., go through a attorney to get the stamping done in Canada.

Is it legal to work overtime when you are on H1B? I have been working more than 40 hours a week ever since I got my H1B (about 5 hours overtime per week on average). They pay me time and half for the hours over 40.
The reason I ask is that I need to send a couple of paystubs as my parents are travelling to the US soon and I do not want the guy at the port of entry make a bid deal of my overtime hours (if he looks at it and finds out, which I doubt).
The person that stamps your passport and I-94 at the port of entry, is he an immigration officer or who is he? I am writing a letter for my parents to carry with them to show that person if asked for it and not sure who to address the letter. Thanks.

Just chill its just shoplifting, its not like you killed somebody. Its not a crime for which there is no way of repenting. If court found you not guilty and you have done whatever punishment, then I don't see why should have to arms length to hide it.
Don't commit another crime by hiding it. Be confident and accept your mistake. Show some remorse. Just have all your papers in line. One of guys I know has some amazing history which will put your shoplifting to shame. He got his GC and living his life in peace. Just don't hide infront of officials. Also don't flaunt it around.

I came here as student and OPT before, the OPT had a A number
In my approved I-140 i had a A number, both the numbers are different
While filing the forms for 485/EAD/AP and I-693 ( medical report ) i saw a field for A number
Which number must i put in the field

some of the countries like Phillipines may have more schedule A numbers. That is why the total number of EB for 2006 is 157xxx (above 140K).
If the schedule A usage was higher, then they may not reach 7% country limits yet for EB1,Eb2,EB3

Hi,
I am a F1 student and am on OPT now. I got my H1B visa approved from Oct-1 2006 to Sep-30 2009.
But my school said I cannot get my degree certificate till December 2006.
My question is when I apply for my Green card will I be considered into EB2 list or EB3 list. On what basis will this be decided.
Please suggest.

There are two requirements of EB-2. First is the minimum requirements of the Job and the second is the degree that you have earned BEFORE you joined the job.
So if the minimum requirement of the job is M.S. degree and you also had earned a M.S. degree before you joined the job then it will be EB-2. No amount of letters from the dean or your supervisor will convince then that you earned your degree on a date before the date that appears on your diploma.

I just post a msg saying we can file 485 if 140 is pending. But after reading some other posts, I realize that we can file it only if PD from the labor we are using is current. If we want to use PD from an old employers application, we need to have date ported on new i140 application before 485 can be applied.
Is that true? In that case, 140 from my new employer is not approved yet.....so i cud not be able to apply for 485 here :-(
